The sexual dimorphism and feding ecology of Perccottus gleniin the Mudanjiang River

Abstract:Toexplortesealdmorpsmpaesdfoodesourceutlaionharacteristisofercotusglenii,totalf8e ccottus gleniispecimens(2femalesand36males)wrecollctedbygiletfsingintheoaiTownsectionoftheMudajangRiver Basinfrom SeptembertoNovember2O23.After measuring 26morphologicaltraits,multivariatestatisticalanalysis methods wereappliedtodetectthemorphologicalsexualdimorphismcharacteristics,andDNAmetabarcodingtechnologywasusedtorevealitsfod composition.TheresultsshowedthattherewasnosignificantdiferenceinbodysizebetweenmaleandfemalePercotusglen,but significantsexualdimorpismwasobservedinpartialmorphologicaltraits.Amongtem,thertiosofadheighttoeadlength,dstancefromdorsalfintocaudalfintobodylength,pectoralfinlengthtobodylengthfirstdorsalfinbaselengthtobodylength,fist dorsalfinheighttobodylength,seconddorsalfinbaselengthtobodylength,seconddorsalfinheighttobodylength,andanalfin heighttobodylengthofmalesweresignificantlyhigherthanthoseoffemales,whiletheratioofpelvicfinlengthtobodylengthof maleswassignificantlylowerthanthatoffemales.Itwasinferedthattheformerasrelatedtosexualselection,andthelattrwasas sociatedithfecundityselection.ThefeedinghabitresultsindicatedthatPercotusgleniiwasanomnivorousfishwithapreferncefor carnivory,and its main food source was macroinvertebrates such as arthropods.
