Abstract: Grapes are one of the world's major economic crops,and the development of the grape industry is severelyconstrained by water scarcityand the low eficiency of conventional irrigation,especiallyin aridand semi-arid regions.Asan innovative deficit irrigation technique,partial rootzone irigation (PRI) achieves the synergistic optimization of water conservation and crop physiological regulation by manipulating soil water distribution in the root zone.This paper systematically reviewed the development history of PRI,analyzeed its regulatory efects on root growth and development as well as plant physiological characteristics of grapevines, along with its eficacy in improving grape fruit qualityand yield,and prospected the future research directions in this field.It was intended to providea theoretical foundation for the application of PRI technology in vineyards in arid areas.
