Research on Governance Structure Selection for EPC Projects : An Analysis Based on SEM and mvQCA Methods

Abstract:During the rapid promotion of enginering procurement construction (EPC)models,complex contractual relationships and governance dilemmas have become critical issues constraining project performance.The governance boundaries between owners and general contractors is addressed,focusing on transaction timing ((project customization phase)and transaction mode(risk-sharing mechanisms)to determine the optimal governance structure.Six governance structure influencing factors were identified through literature analysis.Structural equation modeling (SEM)validated the mediating efect of transaction timing,while multi-value setqualitative comparative analysis (mvQCA)revealedcombinatorial patterns of transaction elements.Results indicated that transaction timing selection was dominated by project investment type,while transaction mode choices were mediated by transactiontiming.The theoretical boundaries of project governance areexpanded,anddecision-making references are provided forowners to scientifically select contracting models.
