Effects of different herbicides on growth indexes of jujube seedlings and soil bacterial community structure

Abstract: To clarify the effects of pendimethalin and glyphosate on the growth of wild jujube seedlings and the rhizosphere soil bacterial community in jujube orchards, and to provide a theoretical basis for the scientific application of herbicides in jujube production, this study used pottd wild jujube seedlings as experimental materials, set up different concentrations of pendimethalin and glyphosate treatments, determined seedling growth indicators, and analyzed the structure and function of the rhizosphere bacterial community. The results showed that both herbicides significantly inhibited jujube seedling growth, with glyphosate exerting a stronger inhibitory effect,and the shoot dry weight decreased by 73.14% under high-concentration glyphosate treatment. Pendimethalin significantly reduced soil bacterial alpha diversity in a concentration-dependent manner; high-concentration pendimethalin significantly altered the bacterial community structure and induced the upregulation of functions related to bacterial cell wall/membrane biogenesis and inorganic ion transport. In contrast, glyphosate had no significant effect on bacterial diversity or community structure. In conclusion, the inhibitory effects of pendimethalin on jujubeseedlinggrowth and rhizosphere bacterial communitywere concentration-dependent, with 1.2mg/kg (soil dry weight) identified as a high-risk concentration. It is recommended to apply low-concentration pendimethalin ( 0.6mg/kg , soil dry weight) combined with cover crop cultivation in jujube orchards.
