The development and future prospects of apple orchard renovation in Shandong Province

Abstract： This review traces the modernization journey of apple orchard in Shandong Province since the 198Os， encompassing phases such as the promotion of new varieties like Red Fuji， the conversion to high-density orchard using vigor rootstocks， and the adoption of dwarf rootstock apple orchard. These upgrades have significantly improved orchard ventilation and light penetration， enhanced mechanization levels and pest control effectiveness，and achieved cost savings and increased income. Addressing persistent challnges such as limited variety diversity， inadequate infrastructure， and a high proportion of aging orchards， future renovation efforts should focus on optimizing variety selection， upgrading orchard facilities， and advancing labor-saving mechanization technologies. These measures will drive quality enhancement， increased efficiency， and high-quality development within Shandong's apple industry.
