Abstract:Withtherapid developmentof large-scale livestock andpoultryfarming,antibiotics discharged inanimal manure have causedaseriesof environmental problems.Hermetia ilucenslarvae,relying ontheir unique intestinal microbialcomposition,cannotonlydegradeantibioticsbutalsoconvertlivestock manure intovaluableresoures likeproteins.The antimicrobialpeptidesrich in Hermetiailucenshavebeenproved tohavebroad-spectrumantibacterialandimmunomodulatoryfunctions.Thispaper firstdescribes theenvironmental hazardsposedbyantibiotics inanimalmanure.Itthenanalyzes twokeymchansms:thedegradationofantibiotics inmanureby Hermetiailucens larvae,andthepotentialreplacementof conventionalantibioticsusingantimicrobialpeptidesderivedfromHermetiailucens.Furthermore,thefeasibilityofconstructinganintegratedsystemthatcouplesantibioticdegradationwithantibioticsubstitutionisdiscused.Thisworkprovidesnewinsights for utilizing Hermetia illucens larvae totreat livestock and poultry manure while achievingresource recovery.
