Research on the impact of human-machine collaboration on total factor productivity of manufacturingenterprises in the contextof intelligent transformation

Abstract: Against the backdrop of the further advancement of intelligent transformation in manufacturing, it is of great strategic significance to explore how human-machine collaboration can reshape the production modes of manufacturing enterprises and enhance total factor productivity(TFP). Using the data from China’s A-share manufacturing istedcompanies from2O12to2O22,this studyconstructsadifference-indiferences modeltoempirically examine the impact and internal mechanism of human-machine collaboration on the TFP of manufacturing enterprises inthecontextof intelligent transformation.Thefindings indicate that:First,human-machinecolaboration significantly boosts the TFPof manufacturing enterprises;second,human-machinecollaboration enhances TFP primarilythrough three pathways: reducing transaction costs,alleviating resoure misallocation,and driving technological innovation; third,theeffectofhuman-machinecollaborationonenhancingtheirtotalfactorproductivityismoreobviousinstateowned enterprises (especialy local state-owned ones),those belonging to labor-intensive or technology-intensive industries,and those located inregions with high levels of marketizationand smalland medium-sized cities.Therefore, in advancing inteligent transformation, manufacturing enterprises should prioritize human-machine colaboration, strengthen institution-technologysynergyoptimizeresourcealocationeffciency,improve theintegrationofinovation factors,and formulate differentiated implementationpaths basedon different ownership attributes,industry technical characteristics and regional development levels,soas to fuly release the productivity-enhancing potentialof humanmachine collaboration.
