Application of Vehicle-Borne 3D Laser Scanning in A Road Reconstruction Project in East Africa

【Abstract】 : Based on a road widening and renovation project in East Africa,high-precision topographic mapping under complex terrain conditions was completed using vehicle mounted 3D laser scanning technology.By comparing theeffciency and accuracy of traditional mapping methods with new scanning technologies,the technical advantages of the vehicle mounted 3D laser scanning system in special environments such as no fly zones and traffic intensive areas have been verified.The test results show that the system has a mean square error of 3.1 cmin the plane and 5cm in the elevation,meeting the requirements of large-scale topographic mapping standards.Fieldwork efficiency hasbeen significantly improved.
