A Study on the Effect of Velocity-Based Training on Lower Limb Explosive Power of

Short Track Speed Skaters

Abstract: Short track speed skating is a physical fitness-dominated speed event that imposes high demands on athletes' lower limb explosive power. At present, Velocity-Based Training (VBT) is a new type of strength training method that has shown certain advantages in improving training efficiency for athletes. To verify the effectiveness of this method, an 8-week experimental training was conducted. By using the methods of literature review, experiment and mathematical statistics, this study compared the effects of VBT and traditional strength

training on lower limb explosive power of short track speed skaters. The results show that both VBT and traditional strength training can significantly improve the lower limb explosive power of short track speed skaters, while VBT presents better training effects on most indicators. The superiority of VBT mainly stems from its real-time monitoring and feedback mechanism of movement velocity. VBT is more consistent with the specific force requirements of short track speed skating, such as rapid start and instantaneous acceleration, thus

achieving a better conversion from strength to specific performance. It is suggested that VBT should be integrated into the physical training system of short track speed skaters as an effective method to improve lower limb explosive power; group training mode should be adopted in VBT to enhance the competitiveness and incentive effect of training; athletes' personal training files should be established to systematically record velocity-strength data, so as to improve the scientific training level of short track speed skating in China.
