Development Experience and Enlightenment of Canada as a World Power in Winter Sports

Abstract: Canada is a world power in winter sports. In the post-Olympic era, exploring its “secrets” of strength can provide theoretical references for building China into a strong winter sports nation. By analyzing the basic characteristics of Canada as a winter sports power, it is found that its strength is mainly reflected in two dimensions: stability and comprehensiveness. Further summarizing its development experience reveals that Canada adopts a hierarchical management model to guide the all-round development of winter sports, relies on sound infrastructure to guarantee public participation, builds a complete competition system to provide all-round training space for athletes, and empowers the rapid growth of reserve talents through professional coaching teams. Based on the enlightenment from Canada’s development, this paper puts forward strategies for China: strengthening government leadership and improving the governance system; innovating management methods and establishing an organic winter sports competition structure; deepening the integration of sports and education to broaden the training path of reserve talents; and strengthening domestic and international cooperation to improve the professional level of coaches.
