Study on the durability ofcorn straw fiber recycled asphalt mixture under freeze-thaw damage

Abstract:Aiming at the problem that the fatigue resistance of recycled asphalt mixture decreases significantly under te conditionof freeze-thaw cycle,the effectsof corn straw fiber onthe adhesion,water stability and fatigue resistance of recycled asphalt mixture were studiedby carrying outcontactangle tests,freeze-thaw cycle splitting test and semi-circularbending fatigue test.Theresults show thatcorn straw fibersignificantly improves the hydrophilicityand internal structural integrityof recycled asphalt mixture,and plays a reinforcing role. When the freeze-thaw cycle is 1~40 times,the adhesion work of fiber modified mixture is 8.34% and 16.65% higher thanthatof matrix asphalt and recycledasphalt respectively.When the freeze-thaw cycle is 2O times,the performance stillmeets the specification requirements ;when the numberoffreeze-thaw cycles is 40,thesplitting strength reaches 0.67MPa ,which is 23.88% and 34.32% higher than that of matrix and recycled asphalt mixture, respectively.The fatigue life of 5 O17 times is 37.15% and 29.16% higher than that of matrix and recycled asphalt mixture,respectively. The fatigue life is 5 O17 times,which is 37.15% and 29.16% higher than that of matrix asphaltmixture and recycled asphalt mixture,respectively.The research conclusions can provide a direct reference for the material design and engineering application of recycled asphalt pavement in cold regions.
