Characteristics Channel Evolution the Xinqiman Reach in the Tarim River Main Stream over the Past 31 Years

Abstract:ToinvestigateteevolutioncharacteristicstheXinqmansectionintemainstreamteTarimRiver,thisstudyanalyed31 years(1993-O)Lndsatseriessatelieimageryhdrologicalstationdatawatersedment.Acomparativeanalysiswasconductedonthetypicalparametestevercrossetion,tehaelenterlinendthareathed-chaelbars.Tesulsindicate that the rates northward southward migration the main channel reached 13.7ma 11.3m/a ,respectively. At the Xinqiman Bridge section, the centerline migrated westward at a rate 19m/a ,necessitating continuous expansion the right bank abutment. The sinuositycoefetchangedfrom1.61to.O.Theaverageratehanginteurvatureadusforend1,Bend2theucted ering reaches was 30.5% .The bend tightness index fluctuated between O.8 3.34,indicating thatthe river channel had lengthened becamemoresinuous,therebyincreasingflodriskduringthefloodseason.Theaveragerateswideningnarowingforthechannel cross-sections were 79% 18.8% , respectively. Channel widening could lead to mainstream migration bank retreat, damaging existing revetmenttructuresriparianfarl,whilechannelnarowingincreasedtheriskfloodovertopingduringhig-flowperiods.idchannel bar1 ( 500m northeast Dazhai Reservoir) mid-channel bar 2( 2km northeast),due to their expansion,caused 4OO m (204号 300m retreatattheconcavebanks,respectively,ntensifyingthecycle“erosionatconcavebanksdepositionatconvexbanks” furtherincreasingflodolOallaelvouiseItioddpentllatidd ment dredging to ensure the safety the banks,adjacent farml,villages the Xinqiman Bridge.
