Exploring Pathways of University Students’Personalised English-Speaking Learning Using Generative AI

The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence(GenAI)in foreign language speaking instruction hasatracted increasing scholarlyattention.DrawingontheIntegratedModelofTechnologyAceptance(IMTA),thisstudyinvestigatesChineseuniversitystudents'acceptanceofGenAIforpersonalisedEnglish-speakingpractice.Datawerecollctedfrom513questionnaireresponsesandsemi-structured interviews with15participants.The study examines therelationshipsamong perceived usefulness,perceivedeaseofuse,perceived enjoyment,and behavioural intention,andfurtherdelineates the behavioural pathwaysunderlying learners’adoptionof GenAIfororal Englishlearning.Thefindingsrevealthatperceivedenjoymentistheprimaryfactorshaping learers’ intention touseGenAI,with such enjoymentarising mainlyfromGenAIsmultimodal interactioncapabilities,tspotential to enhance speaking performance,andtheemotional support it provides.Although perceivedeaseof usedoes notdirectly predictbehaviouralintentio,itexertsanindirectfectbyimprovingperceivedusefulness,whichintuinflueneseaers' wilingnesstoadoptGenAI.Theseresultsofferpractical implicationsandtheoreticalinsightsfortheintegrationofGeAinto English-speaking instruction.
