Is Phonetic Substance Necessary in Phonological Research in Digital Era ： Frontiers of Substance Free Phonology

Thequestion of whether phonological research necesitates reliance onphonetic substance has been a central and enduring debatesincethediscipline'sinception.Drivenbythewaveofdigitalizationandrificialintellgence，phonologicalreseachisundergoing profoundchanges.Traditionalrule-basedandconstraint-basedphonologicalanalysisisexpandingtowardscomputational phonology，experimentalphonologyanddigitalhumanities.SubstanceFreePhonologypositsthatphonologicalpaternscanbe investigatedthroughabstract symbolicformalisms，circumventing excesiverelianceonphoneticsubstance.Itscore liesinuncoveringcros-linguisticponologicaluniversalsandestablishingaforal theoreticalframework independentofphoneticsubstance. Driven particularlybyadvancementsinLogical Phonology，phonologicalresearchhas brokenawayfromitsphoneticsubstances andincreasinglyembracedformalizationandsymbolization，mphasizing thelgicalcoherenceandinferentialprocessesuderling phonological systems.Thispapercomprehensivelyreviews thedevelopmental trajectoryofSubstanceFree Phonology，delineating its evolutionfrotheoreticalinceptiontoprogressvematuration.Itcriticallyengageswihcurrntcutingdgedevelontsin thefieldandoutlinespotentialdirectionsforfuturetheoreticaladvancements，imingtoprovidefreshinsightsforphonological theory innovation and cross-linguistic analysis.
