Developmentof a SiteIndex Table for Quercusacutissima Plantations in the Mount Tai Region Based on Nonlinear Mixed-Effects Models

Abstract:Quercus acutissimaisanimportantafforestationandecological treespecies.Asoneof itsdistributionareas,the Mount Tai Region faces the pressing need to scientifically evaluate the site quality of its Q acutissimaplantations.This studyaimsto developa site index table for Q. acutissima plantations in the region,providing scientific support for site quality assessment and management practices of local Q acutissima forests.Taking Q .acutissima plantationsin theMount TaiRegionas theresearch object,this studyuses 232 sets of treeheight and agedata derived fromstem analysis of 30 average dominant tres.Based on fivecommon growth models,this studyadopts nonlinear mixed-effects models (NMEMs)with plot-levelrandomefects.Itdetermines thereferenceageaccording tothecoeficientofvariationof tree height across different age classes,compiles a site index table for Q acutissima plantations in the Mount Tai Region using the height relative dominance method,and evaluates theapplicability of the site index table by the X2 test and drop-point test.The results show that: (1) the site index table can be used to evaluate the site quality of Q .acutissima plantations in the Mount Tai Region.(2) the Chapman-Richards model is the optimal base model (R2=0.6575 ),which can serve as the guiding curve.(3))allNMEMsoutperform thebase models,with the NMEMwithrandom effcts appied to parametera achieving the best fitingperformance( R2=0.9792 ,F ΔMSE=0.658Ω0 3).(4) thereference age isdetermined as 40 years,with an index class interval of 1m and a total of 8 site index classes. (5) the X2 test and drop-point test confirm the practical applicabilityof the compiled site index table.In summary,the site index table of Q .acutissimaplantationsin the MountTai RegionbyNMEMs with plot-levelrandomefects,is suitablefor thesitequalityevaluationin theregion.
