Finite Element Analysis of Bending Performance of Straw-Cold-Formed Thin-Walled Steel Combined Beam

Abstract:Takingcold-formedthin-walled steeland strawboardas the main materials,anewtypeofbox-section strawcold-formed thin-walled steel combined beam wasconstructed byusing theconnection method of straw board wrapped with cold-formed thin-walledstee.The finite elementsoftware ABAQUS was used toestablish7 groups of 25combined beam models toanalyze the efctsofconnection method,strawboard thickness,steel thickness,steel height,webbolt rows,web bolt spacing and beam span on the flexural performance of the combined beams,and to explore the damage modesanddamage mechanisms of thecombined beams inthecaseoflexuraldamage.Theresults showed that the lower flange ofthe straw boardreached the tensile strength before the upperflange inthefinite element simulation loading process,which led to bending cracks and bending damage in the mid-span region of thecombined beam,and the lower flange of the strawboard underwentlocalized compression bending and conformal sheardamage in the processof load increase.Each parameter had adiferent degree of influenceon the flexural performance of the combined beams,among whichthethicknessof thestrawboard,thethicknessofthesteelandthe heightofthe steelhad themostsignificantinfluence on the flexural performance.The optimum combination parameters of the combined beams were as follows,with high bending load capacityand smalldeflection deformation,usingadhesiveconnection,48 mm thickness of straw board,2.5 mm thickness of steel,and 200mm height of steel. The web bolts were arranged in two rows with a spacing of 150mm ,and the overall span was 1800mm ,which was verified to be in line with the expectation by the test. The combinationofcold-formed thin-walled steel and straw board can efectivelyutilize theirrespective advantages and significantlyimprove theflexuralloadcapacityof thecombinedbeam.
