Intersection crossing strategy for connected and automated vehicles

based on multiple control modes

Abstract:Toaddress theeficiency losscaused bytrafficcongestionand frequentvehiclestopsat signalied intersections,inthis studywe proposeanintersection pasing strategy based on mutiple control modes.The interactions betweenvehiclesandtraficsignalsaswellasvehicle-to-vehicle interactionsareanalyzed,andsixcontrol modesare developed basedonvariations in traficflow,signal cycles,andvehicle behavior.Thestrategy is dynamicallyadjusted to real-time traffcconditions.Tominimizetheimpact of abruptaccelerationchanges,theconcept of vehicle jerkis introduced,andastraight-linetrajectorymodelisdevelopedaccordingly.Inadition,consideringthecolision-avidance constraints of preceding vehicles,apolynomialmethodisusedtoconstruct anoptimized lane-changing trajectorymodel to enhancethe lane-changing eficiency.Acomparative analysisof fourcontrol strategiesdemonstrates that the proposed multi-mode control strategy reduces delay times by 18.93% and 25.79% under low- and high-traffic flow conditions, respectively,compared totraditional strategies.Furthermore,byanalyzingthedisplacement,speed,andacceleration curves of vehicles during travel,vehicle passingtimeisreduced by2.60to23.52sunder diferent control modes,confirming the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in improving intersection traffic efficiency.
