Abstract ：Cyperus esculentus （commonly known as tiger nut） is a perennial herbaceous oil crop native to Africa and was introduced into China relatively late.At present，this crop remains litle known in China，and among its commercial products，onlytiger nutoil is commonlyavailable，indicating considerable potential for furtherdevelopment and market expansion.It tolerates both drought and waterlogging，cangrow in infertile saline-alkali soils，and is lesssusceptible to pestsand diseases.Its major nutritional components include oil，starch，sugars， proteins，dietary fiber，minerals，and volatileflavor compounds.C.Esculentus possesses high edibleand medicinal value，exhibiting notable healthpromoting properties.In addition，it serves as a raw material foranimal husbandry and industry，making ita multipurpose cropthat integrates food，oil，feed，and forage functions whilealso providing ecological benefits.This paper reviews theadvantageous characteristics，nutritional composition，and edible value，bioactive components and medicinal properties，as well as other uses of C . esculentus ， aiming to provide a reference for its comprehensive utilization，further research，and industrial development.
