Calculation finite element analysis stress for high strength bolted joint structure based on VDI 2230

Abstract：As to a high strength bolted joint structure，the preload stress the bolts are calculated based on the VDI 223O stard algorithm mechanical design method. The results obtained from the VDI 223O stard algorithm are consistently higher than those from the mechanical design method. A comparation analysis the bolted joint models using the two methods is conducted using the finite element method. The results indicate that the thread stress distribution in the model based on VDI 2230 is more uniform，demonstrating that designing verifying high strength bolted connections according to the VDI 2230 stard is more reasonable.
