Development and verification of fatigue strength evaluation program for welded joint based on master S-N curve method

Abstract:To address the issues of high computational complexity and cumbersome procedures in assessing the fatigue life of welded structures using the structural stress method,an evaluation program based on the structural stress method is developed using the APP Designer module in MATLAB. According to three sets of welded joint data from relevant literature,the program is employed to perform structural stress calculations. The results are compared with those obtained from fe-safe software,showing a maximum relative error of only 1.48% . Four lap welded joints with different mesh sizes are used to compare the calculated results of structural stress, von MISES stress,and the first principal stress, thereby verifying the mesh-insensitive characteristic of structural stress calculations. The comparison between the program fatigue life results and test data further confirms the accuracy and reliability of the program.
