Abstract: Objective To discuss systematically the application status, challenges and future trends of artificial intellgence (AI) inenabling the intelligent transformation ofthecoal industry.Methods The applications of AI in the entire life cycle of coal mining were comprehensively reviewed,covering transparent geological modeling, intellgent mining system of excavation-mining-transportation-lifting, intelligent monitoring and warning of disasters,and smart mine information infrastructure and emerging mine big models and other systematic technologies.Results Itis found out that although AI applications in coal mining have shown significant progress, there exist four core challenges: data islands and quality problems at the data level; insuficient model robustness and generalization ability at the algorithm level; bottlenecks in underground computing power and communication networksat the facility level;and insufcient integration of technologyand scenariosat the application level. Conclusion AI is the core driving force in the transformation of the coal industry,but its application is stillin theearlystage of "point-like" breakthroughs.Future development needs to focus on building an intelligent system with "mine big model twin" as the core,integrating multimodal holographic perception, cloud-edge-end collaborative computing,adaptive evolution and human-computer enhanced interaction,so as to achieve green,safe and eficient normalized unmanned operations,and promote the coal industry into a new intelligent era.
