Adsorption study of heavy metals in simulated water bysludge biochar modified with atapulgite materials

Abstract:Toproperlytreatmunicipalsludgeandimprovetheperformanceofbiocharadsorbentfortheadsorptionofvarioushavymetals. Sludgebiocharmodifedwithatapulgitematerialsaspreparedbypyrolysisusingsldgeandatapulgiteasrawmaterials.Teadsoption performance of the modified materials for Cd2+ , Cr3+ , Zn2+ andNi 12+ in simulated water was investigated. The results showed that when the mass ratio of sludge biochar to attapulgite was 2:1 ,pH was 5,the addition amount was 1g⋅L-1 ,and the concentration of the four heavy metals of 10.0mg⋅L-1 ,the removal of Cd2+ , Cr3+ , Zn2+ andN 12+ by the modified material was 83% , 87% ,89 % and 88% ,respectively. The adsorption processes of Cd2+ Cr3+ Zn2+ andNi 12+ bymodified materials followed the quasi first order kinetic model and Langmuir model.The adsorptionmechanismofthemodifiedmaterialsonheavymetalswasdeterminedbycharacterizationmeanssuchasscanningelectron microscope,X-adiacodifredspectrooy.Iinlyosistsoforefiling,olexaofygontangfucioal groups,heavy metal -π electronic interactions,ion-exchange of N a+ and co-precipitation of silicates and CO 32- . In this study,the sludge biocharmodifiedwithatapulgitepreparedpresentedexcelentadsorptionfortheremoalofultipleeavymetals,whichprovdesanew idea for the study of simultaneous removal of multiple heavy metals in waterbodies and the utilization of sludge.
