TheInfluence of Radar Cover Material on Millimeter Wave Transmission Performance

Abstract:Toinvestigate theefect ofautomotivemillimeter-waveradarradomematenvlsonmillimeter-wave transmitanceperformance,thispaper inelaborates the intrinsicrelationship between material transmission lossand electromagnetic parameters,and tests the electromagnetic parameters and transmision loss of several commonly used radarcover plastics,aswellasthetransmission loss of different Polypropylene (PP)material thicknesses.Theresults indicatethatlowpolaritymaterials generallyhavelowerdielectricconstantsanddielectriclosses.Thetransmissionloss of millimeter waves in bumpers exhibitsaperiodic relationship with wall thickness,and the transmission lossis minimalwhen thethicknessisaninteger multipleofhalfawavelength.Furthermore,throughanalysisof the transmission lossof materialswithdiferent paintcoatingsand metal coatings,itis foundthataluminum powder and pearlescent powder in paintcomponents have a significant negativeimpactonthetransmision performance of millimeter waves.Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) aluminum plating is not suitable for Adaptive Cruise Control(ACC) vehiclelogos,whileappropriatefilmthicknessPVDindiumplating has minimal interferencewithmillimeterwavesand meets the transmission requirements.
