[Abstract] This article systematically examines the multi-subject collaboration for open access of humanities and social sciences monographs in American university presses from the perspective of stakeholders, aiming to provide references for Chinese university presses. Firstly, it analyzes the driving factors of the development of OA: the crisis of traditional publishing models, the demand of teacher tenure review, the successful demonstration of OA journals, and the mission to broaden academic dissemination. Then, it selects Luminos, TOME, and D2O as representative projects, to analyze their collaboration models, cost-sharing, and sustainable mechanisms. The results suggest that multi-party collaboration is the core feature of the American practice, which is reflected in the deep participation of libraries, financial support from foundations, and the integration of academic platform resources. Based on the American experiences, this article proposes that Chinese university presses should establish a national OA publishing alliance, build a diversified financial guarantee system, promote the deep integration of presses and libraries, and improve the academic evaluation mechanism for OA monographs to promote the open dissemination and academic influence of humanities and social sciences monographs
