Microstructure mechanical properties laser welded .joints copper/titanium dissimilar metals

Abstract:[Objective]Welding copper/titanium dissimilar metals has important potential application prospects inaerospace,nuclear industry other fields.The purpose this paper was to realize connection between copper(T2) titanium(TA2).[Methods]Welding procedures test copper/titanium dissimilar metals was carried out by laser welding.Macroscopic morphology,microstructure mechanical properties welded joints under diferent laser powers were analyzed.[Results]The results showed that effective connection copper/titanium welded joints could berealized by laser welding.Welded joints presented the form welding-brazing,which was composed heat affected zone on the copper side,fusion zone heat afected zone on the titanium side. When laser power was 1.8kW ,tensile strength welded joints was 127.2 MPa,which was about 53% copper base metal. Minimum microhardness was on the copper side, fracture occurred on the copper side.With the increase laser power,Cu-Ti intermetalic compound with thickness about 34μm was formed at the welding-brazing interface,making it a weak point in welded joints.[Conclusion] Reasonable control laser power could efectively inhibit formation intermetallic compounds improve mechanical properties welded joints.These findings notonly provided valuable reference for laser welding copper titanium,but also provided important experimental basis for further optimizing design manufacturing process dissimilar metal welded joints.
