Abstract: Taking acertain abandonedrare earth mine areain Ganzhou cityasan example,the Groundwater Modeling System (GMS)was used to analyze the variation characteristics of nitrate and ammonia nitrogenpollutionplumes in the mining area.The pollution assessment index method was employed to determine the optimal monitoring wels for simultaneously monitoring thetwopolutants.The simulation results showed thatthemigrationofthe polution plume was consistentwith thedirectionofthegroundwater flow field.It wassuggestedthatthe hydrological interceptionand retentionof polutants beutilized inthepond leaching area,whiletheexcavation treatment should beadopted inthe in-situleachingarea.Inaddition,thecomprehensive pollution inthe miningarea was the most severe in the in-situ leachingarea,followed bythepond leachingarea.Considering thedrawbacks ofsetting monitoring wellsforasingle polutant,theoptimal monitoring wels were determined tobelocatedon theeast and west sides ofthe in-situleaching areaandinthenorthwestof thepond leachingarea,therebyreducing costsandachieving thelong-term monitoring of multi-source pollution.
